Welsh TUC conference demands fight against cuts

by Marianne Owens, vice chair of PCS Wales
Issue No. 2204

The Wales TUC conference agreed a robust response to the economic crisis and public sector cuts last week.

A composite motion from the PCS, RMT and Unite unions against the cuts was carried unanimously.

It called for an alternative strategy, including a clampdown on tax evasion, supporting the million green jobs campaign and setting up a public sector union forum to organise campaigning activity, and Welsh marches and rallies.

The conference was lively and angry. Other motions passed included support for Wales Unite Against Fascism, equal pay and opposition to pay freezes and attacks on public sector pensions.
