Delegates at the Unite trade union conference passed a motion in solidarity with Palestine and calling for a boycott of Israel on Tuesday.
Jim Kelly told conference, “Israel is a rogue state engaging in state-sponsored terrorism. Palestinians in Gaza are forced to live in a prison.
“I was proud to go out and support a spontaneous demonstration in defence of Palestine through Manchester yesterday. Every demo has to have thousands of Unite flags and placards on it.”
Mohamed Aslam Malik, another delegate, said, “We need more than words—we need action. We have an MP here,” he said, pointing to Jack Dromey on the platform. “We should be asking the MPs to take action.”
Other delegates demanded that the government immediately suspend its trade agreements with Israel and impose immediate sanctions.
One called on the Unite leadership to provide practical solidarity with Palestine—including sending donations and taking part in the next convoy to Gaza.
Richard Allday from London said he wanted to volunteer to be part of the next aid convoy, adding that Unite should send a delegation to Gaza.
