The Tories are planning to deport hundreds of unaccompanied Afghan children to Kabul.
A new centre is being built in the Afghan capital, costing £4 million, to act as a “reintegration centre”.
The plans outlined mean every month 12 boys under 18, and 120 adults will be forcibly removed.
Some 4,200 unaccompanied minors are currently in Britain. Children from Afghanistan make up the largest proportion, because of Britain and the US’s “war on terror”.
Child asylum seekers can currently only be returned if there are adequate care arrangements in place.
Policy papers circulated by the former Labour government in February said that formal safety measures like guardianship would be sidelined, as they were “immensely expensive to put in place”.
This new centre takes this policy to its crudest level.
The idea of deporting children and adults to places wracked with war and poverty is a disgrace – particularly when Britain caused it.
