The Swedish Port Workers Union (Svenska Hamnarbetarförbundet) is to blockade all Israeli ships and cargo following its massacre of peace activists on a humanitarian mission to Gaza.
Bjorn Borg, the union’s federal chair, told Socialist Worker, “We are taking this action in protest at the violence the Israeli troops used against the Freedom Flotilla.
“We are calling for the lifting of the blockade of Gaza and an international investigation into the Israeli assault on the flotilla.”
An Israeli-dominated inquiry into the attack is to take place.
The Swedish workers’ action will last a week and will particularly hit Israeli fruit and vegetable exports to Sweden.
The blockade begins on 23 June. Bjorn added, “We have also had a good response from other dock unions internationally, including South Africa and the United States. Norwegian dock workers are also discussing blocking Israeli ships and cargo.”
