The lecturers’ UCU union is set to hold national strike ballots of members over jobs and pay.
The union’s higher and further education committees met last week and decided to begin balloting after the summer break.
This is good news as education is under attack. National action will unite workers and strengthen resistance.
The union is still to finalise the ballot timetable. One possibility is a strike on or around 20 October—the day of the Tories’ spending review which is expected to launch an assault on HE and FE provision.
Lecturers hope to organise a national protest in defence of education in November with the NUS students’ union.
