Industrial action threat at Corus

by Martin Copson
Issue No. 2209

Workers at the Corus steel plant in Scunthorpe have told bosses they will be balloting for industrial action unless two of their colleagues are reinstated.

Following the tragic death of an electrician on the site, the company has introduced a draconian approach to health and safety, discipling and sacking staff first and asking questions later.

The 200 Community union members in the Plate Mill branch stress safety is their priority – but they will not allow management to put the blame for systemic failures at their door. National union officers are to talk to the company and try and resolve the issue.
