Sandwell schools: "You can't get much more frontline".

Issue No. 2210

After initially announcing that nine planned projects in Sandwell in the West Midlands would go ahead, Tory education secretary Michael Gove then said they were all cancelled.

Ian Murray, secretary of Sandwell NUT union told Socialist Worker, “The fabric of Sandwell’s schools is shocking. Many were either built before the Second World War or were put up quickly in the 1950s.

“This is the sharp edge of Tory cuts—a foretaste of things to come. It directly affects frontline services. You can’t get much more frontline than the schools pupils learn in and staff teach in.”
