Health workers take government to court over pensions attack

Issue No. 2210

Health workers in Oxfordshire are threatening to take the government to court over the shift from RPI to CPI uprating.

Members of Unison’s Oxfordshire health branch, which has 4,000 members, are calling for others to join them.

Oxfordshire health branch official Mark Ladbrooke told the Oxford Times that the shift to CPI was “a direct breach of contract with millions of retired health workers and those currently paying into the scheme”.

He added, “For the government to dump this legal commitment in order to balance the books following the banking crisis is not only morally unlawful.”
