Gove’s scrapping of more than 700 school rebuilding projects across England, and the fiasco that followed, show two things.
First, the Tories are out to steal everything they can from working class people and their children.
And second, they have such disdain for ordinary people that they can’t even be bothered to be accurate about their attacks.
On Monday, Gove released his fifth list of the schools losing out, after four inaccurate attempts so far.
The latest cuts will leave thousands of working class children stuck in leaky, crumbling buildings.
Shereen is a student at a school in Newham, east London. Her school was due to be rebuilt in April, but Gove has cancelled the project.
Shereen told Socialist Worker, “Our school is really old. There are cracks in the walls and in the ceilings. The worst thing is that it’s really hot because there’s no ventilation.
“We have fans but they make so much noise that we have to turn them off in lessons. You just end up concentrating on fanning yourself instead of the lesson.
“If we’d had our school rebuilt it would have shown that someone cares about us.”
Gove knows that there are millions of furious parents, children and school workers across Britain who want to tear him apart. And they are taking the fight to him.
Teaching unions and other campaigners have called a protest and lobby of parliament on Monday.
It needs to be a huge show of anger and defiance.
This is an issue for everyone, not just teachers and school students.
The Tories are coming for our jobs, our pensions, our hospitals and our services.
We have a government of millionaire scum that is hellbent on attacking our most basic services.
But it is also enraging millions of people who have the potential to bring it down.
If Gove is forced out, it could be the start of driving the government back over all the other attacks.
