Health funding is becoming an ever more contentious issue as more and more groups realise what the “GP-led” funding system will mean for them.
Mental health campaigners think services will be abandoned after the government’s white paper on funding goes through.
The paper will hand budgets to GPs. But an overwhelming number of doctors don’t feel able to provide services for the mentally ill.
The results, from two recent surveys, show that without specialist planning and advice, some groups needing healthcare will be completely abandoned.
Mental health charity Rethink, which conducted one of the polls, found that more than three quarters of GPs didn’t feel equipped for the role.
