Defend Hastings PCS union rep

Issue No. 2213

PCS union branch secretary Sam Buckley has become the fifth union officer to be sacked from the Child Support Agency in Hastings in two and a half years. He was sacked on charges of “incapability”.

In a previous case an Employment Tribunal found branch chair Eddie Fleming had been unfairly dismissed – but management still refused to give him his job back.

However bosses at the office gave permission to a staff member to stand as a candidate for the fascist British National Party (BNP) in local elections in 2008 and 2009.

When union activists attempted to hand out anti-BNP leaflets, reps were thrown off the premises by security.

A demonstration and rally – backed by the PCS at every level – takes place on Saturday 18 September, assembling at 1pm at Hastings Pier.
