Tram workers stand up for union

Issue No. 2213

Supertram workers in Sheffield have voted to strike over the derecognition of a union rep.

Almost two thirds of Unite union members backed action.

The ballot followed the company’s refusal to negotiate with the union rep, claiming he had “failed to meet the standards expected” and that he had “undermined the democratic voting process.”

Tram workers threatened industrial action last September over a pay freeze but later accepted a two-year deal.
