Action gets pay results at Astrum

Issue No. 2213

A strike by workers at Astrum engineering in Stanhope, County Durham, has won an improved pay offer.

Around 200 workers struck for a day in July and imposed an overtime ban.

The Unite and GMB members were threatening another walkout unless they received a better offer. The workers have received no annual increase since 2008.

One worker said, “We understood when we were told there would be no pay increase during the recession. But now things have improved, we believed our efforts during a really tough time should be properly rewarded.”
