BBC Pensions: 'This latent attack on pensions is final straw'

Mark Scrimshaw, chair of the BBC Division of the Bectu union, spoke to Socialist Worker about the pensions fight

Issue No. 2214

“I have never known such a sense of outrage. BBC staff feel taken for granted and insulted by management.

But they are proving to be a mighty beast when roused.

There have been thousands of redundancies at the BBC. There are now 20,000 doing the work of 27,000.

Most people feel proud of working for the BBC and believe in public service broadcasting, but management are taking advantage.

This latest attack on pensions is the final straw.

This is the workers’ money, that is why they are so furious.

The sense that we’re all in the same boat has been destroyed by management. It’ one rule for us and one rule for them.”
