Corus workers to vote on improved offer

Issue No. 2214

Steel workers at Corus are voting on an improved national pay offer after a “breakthrough” in negotiations, their union says.

The 8,000 Unite union members across Corus’s 15 sites are to vote on an offer of 3.2 percent, backdated to April, with a one-off payment of £200.

The union is recommending the deal.

It held out after blasting an offer of 2 percent as “unacceptable” last month.

Terry Pye, Unite’s national officer for steel, said, “This new offer will be well deserved by our members.”

The ballot started last week and will continue for three more weeks.
