In a stark reminder of the crisis in the US, 30,000 people turned out in East Point, Atlanta in Georgia on Wednesday last week seeking applications for government-subsidized housing. The confusion, frustration and poor organisation led to a chaotic scene that left 62 people injured.
The police involved wore riot gear.
All of this resulted from people attempting to obtain application forms for subsidized housing for low-income families and individuals. There was a very low possibility that people would actually get a home.
