Competition for jobs rocket

Issue No. 2215

Some of the lowest paid jobs are attracting huge numbers of applications—particularly from young people—with hundreds chasing each job. And most are paying only the minimum wage.

In Kettering, Northamptonshire, a new Asda store recruitment fair attracted over 1,000 people at the local college—for only 150 posts.

And British Telecom (BT) has had almost 24,000 applications for its 221 apprenticeship positions.
