Train managers in the RMT union at Eurostar have overwhelmingly voted for action against the imposition of “self-dispatch” of services from Paris next month. This is a function currently undertaken by platform staff.
The union members voted by 24 to one for action and they will now refuse to carry out train-dispatch duties.
They believe these are cost-cutting measures and an extension of already heavy responsibilities.
Eurostar had claimed that French unions had already accepted the practice.
But the French union Rail SUD has confirmed that no such agreement exists.
Bob Crow, RMT general secretary, said, “We will work closely with our French and Belgian colleagues to defend the safety of Eurostar services and to ensure that the company does not impose working practices that have not been negotiated or agreed.”
