Benefit cuts hit poor children

More than 50,000 children who already live below the poverty line will be hit by new housing benefit cuts.

A study for the Shelter charity has found that the plans will leave the families of 250,289 children with less than £100 a week to live on once essentials such as food, heating and clothes have been covered.

That’s an increase of 53,596 and includes a 25,053 rise in those with less than £50.
