Over 300 people defied the rain in Huddersfield last Saturday to march against
the cuts proposed by the
Labour-led council in Kirklees, West Yorkshire.
The march attracted union backing and Unison delegations from across West Yorkshire as well from Leicester Health, Rochdale, Telford and Ealing.
The local Unison branch called the demo as part of a long-running campaign against plans to cut 1,500 jobs.
It suspended its strike ballot last week as the employer temporarily withdrew some of the draconian measures.
Kirklees branch committee has agreed that, if the council does not permanently withdraw the measures and agree salary protection and no compulsory redundancies, the ballot will be reinstated.
