Unions calling

Issue No. 1"

I WORK for £5.20 an hour in a call centre. Recently the Unifi union has started to hold regular stalls at my workplace.

This is a real step forward. There are many ways in which the workers are politically isolated. For example, temporary workers are put on separate employment agency contracts and so can be sacked at any time.

Unifi is not famous for its militancy. However, these stalls could become a genuine focus for grievances.

Talking to union members is also revealing. Few are confident enough to do union work. But membership in our workplace is quite high.
