Stop victimisation of Elane Heffernan

Issue No. 2220

A campaign has been launched demanding an end to the victimisation of leading Newham Unison union activist Elane Heffernan.

Elane has a disability following an accident at work. She needs voice activated equipment and other minor adaptations such as a telephone headset to be able to work comfortably.

Managers have prevented Elane working in her team office and placed her in isolation in another building where she has had to fill in forms for patients over a coffee table.

This causes pain and stress and appears to be an effort to force Elane to accept a payment to leave. She was not even allowed a headset when she returned to work.

Newham council is determined to drive Elane and other militant union reps out, exactly when they are desperately needed to lead a fight against the cuts.
