Jerry Hicks won 102 nominations from branches and 35 from workplaces for his rank and file campaign for general secretary of the Unite union.
This is a fantastic demonstration of the mood for something different in the union.
Jerry is the only candidate talking about the kind of action we need against the cuts—effective, coordinated strikes, and breaking the anti-union laws if necessary.
Len McCluskey, the other left wing candidate, has shifted leftwards in response to Jerry’s campaign.
The election statements from the candidates go out on 11 October. The election will run from 25 October until 19 November.
Jerry and his supporters will be campaigning round the country, building a network needed to deliver the biggest possible vote and for the fights to come after the election.
