Debating left’s role in the crisis

Issue No. 2221

Around 150 people attended a conference hosted by the International Socialism journal in Glasgow on Saturday.

The event, held around the themes of imperialism and austerity, saw a wide-ranging discussion on how the left can best respond to the economic crisis.

Alex Callinicos, editor of International Socialism, kicked off the conference with a discussion of his recent book, Bonfire of Illusions.

The event was addressed by speakers from across Europe. Russian socialist writer and activist Boris Kagarlitsky joined Panos Garganas from Greece and Marnie Holborow from Dublin City University.

International Socialism will be hosting more conferences across Britain next year.
