This stunning nine-part BBC TV series from 1996 has just been released on DVD.

It follows the lives of four friends in Newcastle from 1963 to 1995, weaving together the different political issues and struggles of those times.

Nicky returns from America, where he has been involved in the civil rights movement, to campaign for Harold Wilson’s Labour Party.

The series opens a window into life in Britain’s cities during those years.
