Fourth strike day at Astra Zeneca

Issue No. 2222

Workers at drugs multinational Astra Zeneca’s Macclesfield site took a fourth day of strike action on Thursday of last week.

The strikes followed the company’s decision to impose savage cuts to its final salary pension scheme.

GMB union members at the Hurdsfield and Alderley Park sites, which between them employ 6,500 people, voted in favour of industrial action last month.

GMB official Allan Black said, “The company has made no attempt to negotiate or even discuss the matter with the GMB, and we again call for a return to negotiations to resolve this issue.

“This is a case of boardroom greed and a culture which is summed up by ‘do as I say, not as I do’.”

Workers are carrying on with a overtime ban and the union is set to announce further strike days.
