All 1.5 million Unite union members will next week receive election statements from the four candidates for the general secretary election.
Socialist Worker is backing Jerry Hicks, the rank and file candidate. The election will run from 25 October until 19 November.
Jerry is standing against three full-timers—right winger Les Bayliss, left wing candidate Len McCluskey and Gail Cartmail.
Jerry is campaigning throughout Britain and Ireland, getting his message of powerful resistance to cuts out to the members.
“It was a sensational few days of campaigning in Ireland last week,” said Jerry. “We did workplace meetings, public meetings and leafleted workplaces.
“Our leaflets went down a storm with Irish and migrant workers. In Newry, we had a great meeting with 40 bus drivers in their canteen. The points of our campaign were discussed for hours.”
