Barac develops regional network

The third meeting of Black Activists Rising Against Cuts (Barac) took place on 28 September.

We are developing regional networks of trade union representatives, voluntary sector representatives and service users to identify and respond to cuts and provide speakers for meetings, seminars and conferences.

We plan to initiate legal action on any failure to carry out equality impact assessments (EIAs) on the cuts.

We are doing some parliamentary work and working with some regional TUCs. The Scottish TUC Black Workers conference passed an emergency motion this month on working with Barac.

We are developing a Barac cultural strategy.

We invite readers to provide us with information about proposed cuts which will impact disproportionately on black workers and communities.

We urge black workers to join us on 20 October outside Downing Street, where we will be speaking alongside the Reverend Jesse Jackson, trade union general secretaries and others.
