Manchester taxi drivers may strike

Issue No. 2224

Taxi drivers in Manchester have threatened “a winter of strikes” in protest at council plans to introduce a new penalty points scheme.

The council has identified “unacceptable behaviour” and “minor breaches” that it wants to clamp down on.

This includes sounding the horn to announce arrival (four points) and parking on the kerb (three points).

If drivers reach 20 points within 12 months they may be forced to retake tests or have their licences revoked.
