Protest against job cuts at Richmond College

Issue No. 2225

Lecturers protested at Richmond College, west London, on Friday of last week against job cuts.

The workers, in the UCU union, say management plans would cut 50 jobs and replace most with lower-paid positions. Around 15 would go altogether.

Workers protested outside principal David Ansell’s office.

He is paid £150,000 a year.

Lecturers have voted by 179 to one for no confidence in him and are currently balloting for strikes against the cuts—they already struck in May.

They have continued to take action against their bosses—including refusing to volunteer at a college open morning for prospective students earlier this month.

Instead they leafleted visitors about their dispute. The ballot ends on Friday of next week.
