Resisting the EDL

Issue No. 2225

  • Activists in Preston are opposing EDL plans to demonstrate in the town on Saturday 27 November.

Local councillors, the Labour mayor of Preston and local trade unionists have signed a statement against the EDL.

  • UAF supporters chased the EDL out of Farnworth in Bolton last weekend.

EDL supporters retreated to an Asda carpark to put leaflets on car windscreens.

They were chased off again and their leaflets replaced with UAF ones.

  • UAF, the Indian Workers Association (GB) and Sikhs in England have launched a joint statement calling on Sikhs to shun the EDL.

Balwindar Singh Rana, spokesperson for UAF, said, “The Sikh youth have to realise that today it’s the Muslims and tomorrow it will be all of us, black and Asian, Hindu and Sikh.”

  • Wigan and Bolton activists distributed UAF/Kick it Out leaflets and flyers for the 6 November protest at the local football match between Wigan and Bolton last Saturday.
  • Islamophobes will launch a European Defence League in Amsterdam on Saturday 30 October.

UAF is sending a delegation to join an anti-racist protest. For details phone 020 7801 2782.

  • The EDL invited far right US politician Nachum Shifren to speak in London last Sunday.

They could only rustle up 150 supporters though.
