A Tory council’s plans to close two schools and turn them into an academy have been foiled in Manchester.
Parents, school students, teachers and many from the local community beat the plan with a seven-month campaign of petitioning, arguing, and lobbying.
Hundreds attended local meetings and the biggest demonstration seen locally in decades.
The Anti Academies Alliance helped secure the defeat of Tories in Trafford council—which had claimed the plan to close two schools and replace them with an academy was a “done deal”.
The proposed academy sponsor, Trafford College, was so arrogant it even had new uniforms made already.
