Lecturers into battle in Dundee

by Carlo Morelli, president of Dundee UCU
Issue No. 2226

Lecturers in Dundee have voted overwhelmingly for an industrial action ballot unless management commits publicly to no compulsory redundancies.

More than 80 percent of UCU union members voted for the proposal at a packed meeting on Tuesday of last week.

The university says 195 job losses are possible to deal with a budget deficit—and has not ruled out compulsory redundancies.

The UCU also says it is premature to consider such drastic action when the position of the Scottish government towards university funding is unknown.

We need local and national action by workers and students to protect education and jobs.
