Astra Zeneca strike defends pensions

Issue No. 2228

GMB union members at the Astra Zeneca pharmaceutical firm in Macclesfield, Cheshire, struck on Tuesday of this week—the ninth strike day in their ongoing fight to defend their pensions.

The day comprised of three two-hour strikes—5am to 7am, 10am to noon and 4pm to 6pm.

The workers struck on Friday of last week and have also restarted an overtime ban. Industrial action had been suspended for talks with management—but these failed.

Astra Zeneca is imposing savage cuts to its final salary pension scheme.

Around 250 GMB members at the site continue to resist.

Along with strikes they have also held a successful march.
