Hypocrisy of crackdown on Millbank student protesters

Issue No. 2228

Three students have so far been arrested on suspicion of dropping a fire extinguisher from the roof of Millbank Tower.

One is still being held by police—ludicrously on suspicion of attempted murder.

Others face charges of violent disorder and other public order offences.

The right wing media is publishing pictures of alleged “rioters”.

The Tory Guido Fawkes blog is offering £1,000 on the head of the student who dropped the fire extinguisher.

The witch-hunt shows up the hypocrisy of the state.

Ian Tomlinson died during the G20 protests in London last year. Clear video footage shows PC Simon Harwood hitting Ian Tomlinson from behind with a baton.

But no officer has been charged in relation to his death.

No one was seriously injured on the student protest—yet the police and media are devoting endless resources to tracking down protesters.
