Workers board of low pay offers
Around 2,500 Unite union members in the corrugated board industry are to ballot for industrial action after overwhelmingly rejecting a pay offer from their bosses.
Workers voted by nine to one to throw out a 2.15 percent pay offer from the Confederation of Paper Industries.
Strikes could lead to beans shortage
Members of the Unite union at Heinz’s Kitt Green site in Wigan are to vote on strikes.
Workers are angry at a below-inflation pay offer of 3.3 percent for 2010 with next year’s rise capped at 3 percent.
Heinz also wants to re-draw bonus structures and introduce a new sick pay scheme.
Strikes could take place in early December. The 1,200 workers turn out over one billion cans of soup, beans and pasta meals a year.
Drivers demand pay and safety
Train drivers in the RMT transport union at Arriva Trains Wales are to ballot for action in a dispute over pay and conditions.
The RMT has also put forward proposals to improve train safety. The ballot ends on 30 November.

RMT union members on Merseyrail (excluding guards and drivers) are balloting for strikes over pay. The ballot closes on 30 November.
