The scale of the job losses taking place across local government has been revealed by the GMB union.
The union has published a list of 27 councils in England where nearly 40,000 job losses are already threatened. Some are also demanding pay cuts.
In addition a number of councils are also threatening staff with “section 188” notices where employment will be terminated unless workers sign up to major attacks on terms and conditions.
