Where next for students?

by Mark Bergfeld, NUS executive (pc)
Issue No. 2230

Over 150 students from colleges, schools and universities across Britain attended a national coordination meeting, initiated by the Education Activist Network (EAN), last Sunday.

The meeting was an important step forward for the movement, as activists try to find ways to co-ordinate with each other and share ideas.

Students voted to back the UCU lecturers’ union’s calls call for a national demonstration in London when parliament votes on tuition fees. We want to make this Day X for workers, with mass solidarity action and walkouts.

The EAN has called a conference on 5 December.

It is titled Education for People—Not the Market and will be the crucial next step for every activist.

On the same day, across the country, occupations will call People’s Assemblies to coordinate local action.
