G20 Ian Tomlinson PC faces ‘gross misconduct’

Issue No. 2230

PC Simon Harwood—who struck Ian Tomlinson minutes before his death on last year’s G20 protest—could face dismissal for gross misconduct.

Julia Tomlinson, Ian’s widow, said that she was pleased he would be held responsible for his actions, but “the possibility Harwood might lose his job is not the genuine accountability that our family have waited so long for.

“While we believe that any disciplinary hearings must be held in public, we have already been badly let down by the Crown Prosecution Service and have real worries that these misconduct proceedings will lead to yet another whitewash.”
