OVER 100 people, most of them students, attended the two day 'Marxism for a New Movement' event in Manchester last weekend.

Speakers addressed forums such as 'Colonialism, slavery and the birth of capitalism' and 'What is the dialectic?' There were also some lively discussions about 'Che Guevara' and 'Art and Revolution'.

The highlight was the meeting on 'The Occupation of Iraq'. This included an eyewitness report from a trade unionist who had recently been to Baghdad.

John Rees, from the Stop the War Coalition, urged us to let every student, every workplace and every street know that George Bush is not welcome here in Britain.
PAMELA WARD, University of Manchester SWSS
