We need to bring down this government—raising student fees to £9,000 a year and abolishing the Education Maintenance Allowance was never “inevitable”, it was a political choice by David Cameron and Nick Clegg.
Students doing three-year courses at £6,000 a year will leave university with about £30,000 of debt when you add in other costs. If the course is at the top rate of £9,000, debts will be closer to £38,000.
That will price out most working class people.
Yet the total amount raised by all student fees last year was equal to the £7 billion bonuses that top bankers will get this Christmas. Take the bonuses and abolish fees!
This week underlined that British democracy is a sham. The Lib Dems said one thing to get votes—and did the precise opposite once they’d grabbed the ministerial limousines.
The student protests have been an inspiration.
Now we need more—a mass movement and workers taking action too.
