Campaigners are out

Issue No. 1873

AROUND 300 people marched in Southport last weekend, angry that the children's Accident and Emergency department at the local hospital is to close.

The Coalition Against Removal of Kids' Emergency Services called the protest. Parents and children have collected thousands of signatures calling for the decision to be reversed.

Marchers chanted that the protests won't stop until Southport Health Authority backs down.

THE CAMPAIGN to defend the Baglan hospital maternity unit has organised a protest march in Port Talbot, this Saturday, 18 October.

The local health trust is set to downgrade the unit or even close it. The local Welsh Assembly member has attacked the campaigners while the local Labour Party leadership has remained silent and inert.

However, the campaign has gained a great deal of publicity in the local press. The debate about the future of the unit is widespread in the area with hundreds of people signing our petitions against closure or downsizing.
