Fujitsu

Issue No. 1873

THE LONG-running dispute at Fujitsu Services' West Gorton site in Manchester took a new turn last week.

Management had been refusing to talk to the union, Amicus, but have now offered talks, which were due to start on Monday.

A well attended members' meeting decided to call off the strikes planned for 13 and 14 October. However, the meeting also approved plans for up to four days further strike action if the talks didn't make progress.

There are 850 workers on the site, which provides IT services to large organisations such as government departments.

The dispute started over a pay claim, but the key issues are now the defence of union recognition and redundancy rights.
