PCS sees mixed vote over job cuts

Passport workers have voted for action short of a strike against job losses—but turned down the chance to strike over the issue.

Management at the Identity and Passport Service plan to cut hundreds of jobs at interview offices and close down the Newport passport office.

PCS civil service workers’ union members voted for action short of a strike by a three to one majority. Unfortunately they narrowly voted against striking.

The PCS has pledged to keep up the fight, and has said it reserves the right to reballot members in the coming months.
