Parents say no to free schools

Issue No. 2233

A survey by the NUT union has shown that three quarters of parents questioned don’t want so-called “free schools”.

The Tories are promoting free schools—schools that can be set up by charities, businesses or parents.

These will use public money but will be exempt from the national curriculum and national pay and conditions for staff, and outside the control of the local authority.

They allow unaccountable businesses to get more control over education.
