Battle is on to save forests

Issue No. 2233

More than 3,000 people rallied in the Forest of Dean on Tuesday of this week to defend “the people’s trees”.

The Tories plan to privatise all Forestry Commission land in England—some 650,000 acres of public forests.

Private bodies could grab public land at a snip and use it for commercial development.

A bill on the plans is set to be debated in the House of Lords within three weeks.
