Mirfat Badallah is calling for solidarity to stop the Home Office deporting her to Yemen. She has lived in Birmingham for 11 years and has a British husband and British born children.
Mirfat told Socialist Worker, “I wrote to a few friends and comrades asking for support. The response lifted me up and made me think it was worth fighting.
“Now, I urgently need letters of support from people who know me or my husband Alistair as ‘good citizens’ to send to the Home Office.”
She is also building a wider campaign.
Mirfat applied to stay in 2008. The Home Office has denied it ever received her letter—though she has proof her recorded delivery arrived.
It has told her she must go to Yemen in order to apply to stay with her family in Britain. Currently the government advisees “against all but essential travel to Yemen”. The British embassy in Yemen is closed to the public and its website recommends people make applications in other countries.
