THE NATIONAL executive of the PCS civil service workers’ union was meeting as Socialist Worker went to press.
They were discussing a strike ballot across the union as part of the fight against New Labour’s plans to sack over 100,000 civil service workers.
Such a nationally coordinated attack requires a massive national response from our union if we are to defend all our members and the services they provide.
We are on a war footing.
A one-day strike is likely to kick off the campaign in early November.
All PCS regional offices have been sent an instruction to organise anti-cuts rallies in major towns and cities.
These focuses for campaigning and solidarity will take place the week beginning 20 September or early October.
Leaflets, stickers and other campaigning materials can be ordered from the PCS anti job cuts unit on 020 7801 2771, or go to www.pcs.org.uk
