University lecturers

Issue No. 1918

OVER 380 lecturers face dismissal because London Metropolitan University management have decided that, whatever the cost, it will impose a new contract on academic staff.

Members of the Natfhe lecturers’ union held a successful march and protest on Wednesday of last week, where they ceremonially binned the new contracts (above).

Natfhe general secretary Paul Mackney attended the demonstration and pledged his full backing to the campaign.

There was also support from the president of the Nottingham University branch of our sister union, the AUT, where there is a similar situation.

We will hold a one-day strike at the end of this month when new students arrive, and further strikes once term starts.
MARK CAMPBELL, London Metropolitan University Natfhe coordinating committee
