Ray Challinor 1929-2011

Issue No. 2237

Ray Challinor died on Sunday in Wallsend after a long illness. Ray became a revolutionary as a teenager in the Potteries during the Second World War.

He joined the Independent Labour Party and the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP). In 1950 he was one of the original 33 who left the RCP with Tony Cliff to form the Socialist Review Group, the forerunner of the SWP.

He was a distinguished labour historian, the author of many books and articles. He remained a revolutionary socialist all his life.

We offer our condolences to his wife of 60 years, Mabel, and their son Russell.

Socialist Worker will carry a full appreciation next week.
